Ritu
Created in 24 hours for the Global Game Jam 2016 with the theme of “Ritual”. Ritu is an interactive meditational experience based around the concept of ‘constructing’, memorising and repeating your own individual rituals. This is done by drawing a trail at the end of each pathway and then repeating them at the base. You can see our GGJ16 page submission here.
The idea was to try and create a tranquil experience by making use of fluid controls, relaxing visuals, and atmospheric sound design. It was a great learning experience and challenged us all immensely. The game features procedurally built ritual “puzzles” and pathways that all culminate into a final ritual at the end of the game. It also includes pattern copying using particle effects traced by the character that is then replicated elsewhere. Other features include a rigged, textured and animated butterfly, unique ritual style graphics and immersive sound effects.
Ritu was one of the more challenging Game Jams I have attempted. We, as a team, intensely focused on the idea of procedural generation which, in itself, is a challenging prospect even in a normal game creation environment. Sadly, due to difficulties that occurred at the end of the project caused by some of the coding I had changed (in a sleep deprived state) we were unable to have a functioning end state for the game. However, you can still play and enjoy what was completed in 24 hours.
